DeleteKent Healy's film has nothing whatever to do with quantum physics. It is the typical pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo used by the New Age movement. There are some true statements, and many that have no basis in scientific knowledge, but they have been cobbled together to support an unscientific explanation of reality.

DeleteYou're a fool, Who are you to say what quantum phsyics does and soes not support. A plethora of quantum physicists are well aware of the effects of intention on subatomic particles. It all started back in 1927 at the 5th Solvay Conference on quantum mechanics in Brussels Belgium, when Hiesenburgh and Bohr approached Einstien with a new theory that the minds of the researchers were effecting the angular momentum of the electrons spin around the proton. You cannot jump to any conclusions without any proof to back it up. You're a fool. Get with reality.

DeleteI'm with you Auro, as I have heard of similiar experiments where researchers suspected that their very presence nad act of observing affected the outcome of the experiments. And to the anonymous poster; How exactly would you know if it does have any connections to quantum physics? Do you even know what the extent of quantum physics is? No; Noone does. For you to claim a standard is ridiculous, as is your resilience against what the "New Age" movement might have to offer. You trying to encapsule the movement into a single box instead of what it truly is ( A plethora, lurkmoar) is you just trying to define what you don't understand.

I am with you Anonymous. This stuff is complete claptrap and is found everywhere on the web. It is amazing how easy it is to twist difficult concepts around to fool the minds of the unprepared.

Main problem with these statements is that it is based on the assumption that 'molecules change from a chaotic to a fixed position when observed'. This is true but the word 'observed' is misleading. It doesn't mean that we observe them but in fact observing them with instruments changes their behavior. We can't measure particles without some kind of interference. However, nothing happens when humans individually look at molecules. Invalid assumption leads to bad conclusions.

It is not the presence of people that 'collapses the wave function'. It is the act of measurement. Most of this film is scientifically wrong. It is the usual New Age practice of using scientific terminology , that they don't understand, to bolster their airy-fairy, pink candyfloss nonsense.
ReplyDeleteScience can prove only so much. There is powers locked in the human mind that we have not the keys to unlock. Just as we adults withhold certain keys from our children for good reasons , certain keys are held from us untill the appointed time. The human "error factor" is a withholder also. Since scientific research discredits (and/or refuses to accept ) certain things it cannot prove ,much knowledge will remain unknown indefinitely
