Alan Watts & Terence McKenna - Our Need For A Sense Of Unity

Alan Watts and Terence McKenna talk about our need for a sense of unity as our global problems are getting worse and we have become enemies of our planet and each other. Created by The Omega Point Project.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; big men and small character; steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce; fancier houses but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember to say “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

  1. Do you know what to do,is it something on your mind
What are we about, who are you, what did you find
I've seen the evil in you,I've seen the good too
Walk on by, not a second thought, also a caring you
How does it all add up,what counts in the end
Who's keeping score, who says it is a sin
Is it written in the stars,or in earth's dirt
Who's looking to see, can you feel the hurt
Without vision to see yourself, what do you need
Darkness of man's heart, makes my soul bleed
Who sees the mistakes, when the pain starts
I know why we should try, but it breaks my heart
How many walk away, so sad they don't even try It's just the longer I look, the harder I cry
Are we all the losers, is there time left
Sooner or later we push out what's felt
With tears in my eyes, life is so turned around
When at last we listen, will we here no sound
I want to know, do we have the time to see
So much turned around, what is meant to be

  4. This is not your text, it is the poetry of a romanian author , Octavian Paler , called ''The paradox of our times"" . Here is the original . At least pay some respect and write his name under the poetry ! http://www.versuri-si-creatii.ro/poezii/p/octavian-paler-7zuduuo/paradoxul-vremurilor-noastre-6zusups.html#.UVB5mDeclgs

The real "paradox"??? That a website devoted to mindfulness, consciousness, awareness..."knowledge of today"...would allow plagiarism of one of the most gifted poets and philosophers of modern times, who was persecuted by the Romanian Secret Service because of his denouncement of Communism and his "western philosophies." ...for writings that included this very one....... If we're too trust the credibility of this site and it's contributors, the basic principles of accountability and responsibility it espouses....then...a statement from the source, acknowledging a "breakdown in integrity", would be in order. Just sayin.....

What I posted on the above link:

lol, capitalist brainwash is the real problem. open your eyes. I live in Panama central america and we drink soursop juice everytime and there are no side effects, the people that live outside the city (which is a US mini industry) in the fields without the stress and corruption going on at the city tend to live longer some even over 100 years, ironically soursop is gettin more and more expensive over time compared to other fruits. Panama is a mirror image of the US, people are gettin more and more into debts and paying the most expensive universities with the illusion of financial growth, when they get out to the streets they get shitty jobs or jobs that doesnt have to do anything with their career and they get slaved as the capitalists parasites feed on their intelligence and only give crumbs to them. Figures...
